Lavrov to Chair UN Security Council Meeting

  • Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will chair the UN Security Council meeting in New York, where he may meet UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres on Monday. Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, said that Russia had accumulated quite a few subjects for discussion.
  • According Russia’s Foreign Minister, Moscow is ready to consider a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and never rejects serious dialogue proposals by the American side, TASS reports. However, before the Russian delegation’s departure for New York, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that there were no plans yet for such a meeting and its possibility "will be determined according to circumstances."
  • The budget has raised RUB20bln since authorities began collecting a “commission” from businesses for the sale of assets by non-residents in December, RBC reports. Since then, Russian authorities have been collecting funds from sales of Russian businesses by companies from unfriendly countries. For sales to be approved, a contribution of at least 10% of the value of the transaction must be paid to the authorities. Furthermore, the asset must be sold at a discount of at least 50% of the value determined in an independent valuation.
  • Looking ahead this week, Industrial Production data is on the docket on Wednesday ahead of the CBR rate decision on Friday, where the Bank are seen holding rates steady at 7.5%.
