LNG Project Pipeline Not Enough for Strong Global Demand: Mitsui

The current LNG project pipeline won’t be enough to keep up with stronger than expected global demand with a long-term role for gas in the energy transition according to Kenichi Hori at Mitsui.

  • “Announced projects in the world still won’t make up for the supply needed when considering theenergy transition that will take several decades,” said Kenichi Hori.
  • Diversification of supply sources to Japan is likely to prove crucial for energy security according to Hori. “We have projects in the US, Middle East and Africa,” he said.
  • Hori said that Qatar is an “important source of LNG” for diversification when asked about Mitsui interested in signing a contract with Qatar.
  • Mitsui to have “several pathways” for the energy transition, including renewable energy, ammonia and hydrogen, Hori said.
