LNG Tankers May Be Converted to Floating Storage in India

Shipping companies are considering converting two LNG tankers into floating storage units to help meet rising demand in Inda, according to Bloomberg.

  • Petronet currently uses the units with a capacity of 138k mcm to import LNG from Qatar.
  • The tankers would be used on India’s East Coast.
  • India is the world’s fourth-largest LNG buyer and is investing heavily in import infrastructure. It aims to boost natural gas to 15%of the energy mix by 2030, up from the current 7%.
