LPG Carriers Diverting from Suez on Red Sea Attacks: Argus

At least three VLCGs have changed course and are redirecting away from the Suez Canal and Red Sea amid escalating Houthi attacks on vessels, according to Argus.

  • Argus said that ship tracking data shows the Flanders Pioneer, the Crystal Sunrise, and the Clipper Vanguard have taken sharp turns away from Suez.
  • The vessels are currently in East Asia and are redirecting towards the Cape of Good Hope.
  • Ballasting back to the USGC from the Cape of Good Hope will add an additional three days onto the voyage.
  • Concerns for shipping security are growing in the region, with BP suspending tanker traffic from the Red Sea and Euronav following today. Similar action had already been taken by: Maersk, MSC, Hapag Lloyd, and CMA CGM Group.
