Maersk Expects Red Sea Disruption to Last Months

Maersk, the world’s second-largest container line, expects shipping disruptions in the Red Sea to last months, according to Bloomberg.

  • The company said that 15 container line routes have been affected between Asia and Europe and between the US East Coast and the Middle East, according to a note on their website Dec. 22.
  • The Red Sea is encountering disruption because of attacks by Yemen’s Houthis on vessels in the Bab al-Mandab strait. The Houthis have vowed to attack any ships linked to Israel.
  • The disruption adds to continued issues at the Panama Canal due to a drought in the area.
