Tsy futures bouncing off early overnight lows for the week, Bonds leading modest bounce (USM2 +16 at 148-29) after 30YY hit 2.6392% high (July 2019 lvls). Yield curves bull steepening for a change, are receding off recent highs, 5s10s mildly inverted (-.954% vs. -2.077 overnight low).
  • Modest bounce as volume of hawkish Fed speak since last Friday eases slightly after short end rates started to price in two consecutive 50bp hikes starting in May. Fed Chairman Powell at BIS innovation panel this morning less about doing whatever it takes to address surge in inflation and more about digital asset innovation, incorporation and regulation.
  • Geopolitical headline risk coming back to the fore with US Pres Biden traveling to Brussels today for Thu' NATO summit (see 0942ET bullet). NATO head Stoltenberg, allies looking to add additional support for Ukraine, both defensive and offensive.
  • Overnight buying picked up during early London trade from mix of European and Asian real$ accts, swap-tied buying in the shorts to intermediates. Tsys supply with $22B 2Y FRN re-open and $16B 20Y re-open auctions today.
  • Current cross asset: Equities weaker: SPX emini -34 (-0.75%) at 4470.75; DJIA -252.69 (-0.73%) at 34552.99; Nasdaq -151.9 (-1.1%) at 13957.75. West Texas Crude (WTI) +$5.10 at $114.37; Gold +$13.25 (0.69%) at $1934.79.
  • Technicals for TYM2 123-00 last: Firm resistance is seen at 125-14+, the 20-day EMA. Initial resistance is seen at 123-25+, the Mar 16 low and this week’s breakout level.
  • Otherwise, break lower maintains the bearish price sequence of lower lows and low highs, reinforcing the current bear cycle. The focus is on the 122-00 handle next.
