Meeting Of Eight-Party Coalition Reportedly Delayed Until June 30

THAILAND

Rumours are doing the rounds in local media that a meeting between all leaders of the eight-party coalition led by the Move Forward Party (MFP) has been postponed until June 30 from tomorrow after the MFP and electoral runner-up Pheu Thai decided to push back their meeting to resolve the House Speaker dispute.

  • Channel 3 reported that Pheu Thai is considering giving up one of its 14 ministerial seats in exchange for the House Speaker position. According to the report, if the party sticks with its original demands, it may result in a free vote on the House Speaker, which both the MFP and Pheu Thai want to avoid.
  • An MFP source told PBS Thailand that the party's Executive Committee decided to nominate Padipat Suntiphada as House Speaker. Padipat had earlier been mentioned in media reports as the MFP's preferred candidate for House Speaker. The lawmaker expressed readiness to take the position.
