Mexico’s Gasoline Prices Could Fall Slightly in Early 2024

OIL PRODUCTS

Gasoline prices in Mexico could fall in Q1 2024, despite upside support from expected rising crude prices, Argus said.

  • Driving down gasoline levels will be a rise in domestic production and a fall in the price of gasoline in the US market.
  • The EIA expects US gasoline prices to fall by 4.8% next year to average $3.36/gal according to its December Short Term Energy Outlook.
  • Mexico imports around two thirds of its gasoline, Argus said.
  • While production of gasoline and diesel in Mexico from Jan-Oct fell 8% on the year to 376k b/d, production is expected to rise in 2024 provided the new Olmeca refinery can start production. This would boost domestic supply.
