Minister-Reform Package To 'Selectively' Repeal EU Financial Rules Coming

Speaking at TheCityUK conference, Economic Secretary to the Treasury Andrew Griffith states that 'there is no reason why UK clearers cannot continue to offer services to EU countries in the future'.

  • Griffith confirms that there will be a package of reforms to 'selectively' repeal EU financial rules.
  • On 30 Nov, The Guardian reported that, "Ministers are considering relaxing rules brought in to stabilise the banking system after the credit crunch, as part of government plans to deregulate the City of London and spark a post-Brexit second big bang for financial services."
  • Griffith, speaking to a separate banking conference stated that, “We can make the UK a better place to be a bank, to release some of that trapped capital over time around the ringfence.”
