Ministers Play Down Erdogan Health Concerns

Turkey's communications chief rebuffed baseless claims about the President’s health, stressing President Erdogan’s robust condition and full capabilities. However, Turkey's Health Minister said Erdogan has been suffering from an infection, which is now showing signs of abating.
  • "They (the opposition) are trying to gain political advantage through baseless distortions even about the health condition of our president. Our president is on duty with great strength, health, and vigor," Communications Director Fahrettin Altun said.
  • President Erdogan and Russian President Putin had been expected to speak at an opening ceremony of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant at 1130BST/1330 local, but that has now been delayed to later this afternoon. Erdogan was going to attend the event in-person but it was announced this morning that he would instead take part via video call after falling ill during a live television interview earlier this week.
