MNI 5 THINGS: China Nov Home Prices Rise Fastest in 18 Months

     BEIJING (MNI) - MNI highlights five points from data on housing prices
released by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Saturday:
     - The average price of new homes in 70 major cities, excluding subsidized
units, increased 10.3% y/y in November, the fastest gain in 18 months, compared
with 9.7% gain in October,according to MNI calculations. On m/m monthly basis,
average price gained 1.0%, unchanged from October.  
     - Gains in housing prices in the top 15 cities expanded in October. The
average price of 15 cities rose 0.8% m/m, picking up from 0.6% in October. Price
gained 5.1% y/y, the sharpest since August 2017.

     - The numbers of cities which reporting housing price increases on a
monthly basis eased from September - 63 out of 70 cities (65 in Oct) and 11 out
of 15 top cities (13 in Oct).

     - Pre-owned home prices, which gauges a more active property market, fell
in all four tier-1 cities m/m, while two cities fell y/y.
     - New-home price in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia, registered
sharpest monthly gain at  2.9%. On y/y basis, Haikou, the capital of tropical
Hainan province, recorded the most gain for the fourth month at 23.0%. The city
benefited from a policy announced in April calling for further opening up of the
island in the South China Sea to foreign investment .
