MNI BRIEF: Bank Of Korea Keeps Policy Rate Unchanged At 0.75%

(MNI) Tokyo
TOKYO (MNI)

The Bank of Korea on Tuesday kept its policy interest rate unchanged at 0.75% amid concerns over slowing economy caused by the spread of the coronavirus.

The focus for the central bank is shifting to evolving risks that should prompt the BOK to raise the policy rate at the Nov. 25 meeting, with expectations for a hold in October highlighted by MNI, see: MNI STATE OF PLAY: Bank Of Korea To Hold On Economy Concerns.

Worries over financial imbalances increasing amid a prolonged easy policy, saw the BOK on Aug. 26 hike rates to 0.75% from a historic low of 0.50%, for the first rate hike since November 2018. One senior analyst expected a repeat in October.
