MNI BRIEF: BOE Bailey: Wants 'Automatic' QE Unwind

Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey told the Lords Economic Affairs Committee that unwinding quantitative easing, once it begins, should be pre-programmed to help stave-off potential political pressures, which could mount if government borrowing costs go up.

"It needs to be done on a predictable basis which is announced in advance" he said, adding that "one of the natural things to do with dealing with the political economy in this situation" would be to announce an unwind programme and "operate it automatically." The BOE is reviewing is currently reviewing its unwind strategy.
