MNI BRIEF: BOJ Opinions: Board To Review Price Downside Risk

TOKYO (MNI)

Bank of Japan board members will review downside price risks at the January policy-setting meeting to understand the underlying trend, the summary of opinions at the Dec 16-17 meeting released on Monday showed.

“In the next Outlook for Economic Activity and Prices (Outlook Report) to be released in January 2022, it is necessary to examine whether the current assessment that risks to prices are skewed to the downside will remain appropriate, considering, for example, the recent rises in inflation expectations and raw material costs,” one member said. Another board member noted that "the underlying upward pressure on consumer prices also seems to have been increasing gradually."
