MNI BRIEF:BOJ Sep Opinions: Concern On China Econ, Commodities

TOKYO (MNI)

A weaker Chinese economy and the impact on private consumption from high international commodity prices and supply-chain bottlenecks were among topics that drew concern from some bank of Japan board members at the September 21-22 policy-setting meeting, a summary of opinions released on Friday showed.

"Close monitoring is required on whether the tightening of various regulations in China will lower the medium- to long-term growth potential of its economy," one member said.

Another board member added: "continued attention needs to be paid to the possibility that supply-side constraints, including difficulties in procuring parts such as semiconductors and logistics disruption, will expand or be prolonged."

The possibility that higher commodity import price would flow to consumers also was noted.

"Attention needs to be paid to how households' consumption behavior will be affected by price rises in everyday goods such as food products resulting from increases in energy and raw material prices," one member said.
