MNI BRIEF: Central Bank Digital Currency Engagement Grows: BIS

LONDON (MNI)

Central bank engagement with digital currencies has grown sharply in recent years, with almost 90% involved in some for of CBDC, the Bank for International Settlements said Wednesday, with policy work starting to focus largely on retail offerings.

Despite the ongoing work, the BIS highlights some issues still being seen by central banks, including a lack of clarity over the legal authority to issue a CBDC.
