MNI BRIEF: China-EU Deal Under Legal Review: MOFCOM Official

(MNI) LONDON
BEIJING (MNI)

China and the EU are continuing with the necessary legal review work on December's Comprehensive Agreement on Investment, Gao Feng, a Ministry of Commerce spokesman, said when asked to comment on the European Parliament's cancellation of a meeting to discuss the deal. The EP stepped back from planned hearings in the wake of this week's sanctions row with China.

Gao also responded to H&M and other foreign apparel brands' declaration of not using Xinjiang's cotton over human rights concerns, saying that the alleged "forced labor" in Xinjiang is completely fictional and China opposes the sanctions, referring to the EU's and other actions.

Gao added that China welcomes multinational companies but hopes those brands can correct wrong practices and avoid politicizing commercial issues.
