MNI BRIEF: Easy Policy Needed For Economy, Wages - BOJ's Ueda

(MNI) TOKYO

Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda said on Friday the BOJ will continue patiently with easy policy to support economic activity and spur wage growth.

Ueda told lawmakers the achievement of its 2% price target is still uncertain and the bank is focused on whether the wage-price cycle strengthens as this was key to the inflation outlook.

The governor also noted the core consumer price index will likely stay above 2% toward next fiscal year.

Ueda pointed uncertainty on the Japanese economy and prices was high and he would focus on financial and foreign exchange market developments and their impact on the economy and prices.
