MNI BRIEF: Fed's Bowman Says Possible To Achieve Soft Landing

Federal Reserve Governor Michelle Bowman Monday said it's possible the U.S. may see conditions persisting for a so-called soft landing with moderating inflation and a strong labor market, but the central bank needs to continue raising interest rates.

"I'll expect that we will continue to increase the federal funds rate, because we have to, we have to bring inflation back down to our 2% goal," she said in a question and answer session at an American Bankers Association event. "In order to do that, we'll need to bring demand and supply into better balance to achieve that."

"We are seeing some moderation in inflation, not as much as we would like," she said. (See: MNI: Fed’s Peak Rate Looking Perkier As Jobs Boom-Ex-Officials)
