MNI BRIEF: German Exporters' Optimism At Decade High: Ifo

LONDON (MNI)

German exporters are more optimistic in March with expectations rising to the highest level since January 2011, the Ifo Institute said Monday, as strong activity overseas and growing momentum in the euro area boosted the outlook.

Ifo's export expectations index rose to 24.9 in March, up from 11.9 seen in February, boosted mainly by strong economic activity in China and the US. Manufacturers of machinery and equipment saw sentiment at their highest since November 2017 and the electronics industry expects more orders from abroad. While the automotive sector remains optimistic, clothing and footwear producers forecast sales to decrease.
