MNI BRIEF: Italy Deal May Put First Female Into Quirinale Seat

(MNI) Rome

Italy may be heading towards a first female president, in a proposed deal that will leave Mario Draghi in the prime minister's chair, League’s Matteo Salvini and Five Stars’ Giuseppe Conte told reporters Friday.

The situation remains fluid with other parties as yet undeclared on the two possibilities, Elisabetta Belloni, the Director of the Department of Information for Security and Marta Cartabia, the Justice Minister, but the League and the Five Stars are the biggest groups in parliament. An agreement could be reached later Friday, although some expect talks to go on into Saturday.
