TOKYO (MNI)

Real average household spending fell 3.0% y/y in August on lower purchases of clothing, shoes, furniture and utensils for the first drop in two months, data released on Friday by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

Average real income of households with salaried workers rose 5.4% on year in August, marking the first rise in four months following -2.2% in July. Disposable income rose 4.2% for the first rise in four months following -3.7% in July.

In monthly terms, real average household spending fell 3.9% in August, the fourth straight drop following -0.9% in July.
