MNI BRIEF: Japan June Wages Rise, Real Pay Stays Negative

Average wages in Japan rose 1.3% y/y in June, a gain on May, but real wages fell a narrower 0.4%, preliminary data released on Friday by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare showed.

Total monthly average cash earnings per regular employee rose 2.2% y/y in June, (See: MNI BRIEF: BOJ Minutes: Many See Wage Hikes Vital On 2% Target). Overtime pay rose 5.8% y/y in June, accelerating from May. Bonuses and other special pay rose 3.1% y/y in June, for the first rise in two months.
