MNI BRIEF: Kuroda: BOJ Green Support Aims At Financial Stability

TOKYO (MNI)

The Bank of Japan will support financial institutions to identify and managing climate-related financial risks to help smooth financial risks and intermediation, Governor Haruhiko Kuroda said on Tuesday.

Kuroda told the Japan Press Club that the proper functioning of financial intermediation "is vital for decarbonizing our society and the economy."

According to Kuroda, the BOJ's newly outlined policy leg, supporting green lending by banks, will provide funds to financial institutions against "investment or loans they make to address climate change based on their own decisions", with the central bank keeping out of micro-decisions.
