MNI BRIEF: SNB Leaves Rates Unchanged

The Swiss National Bank left monetary policy unchanged Thursday, with both the Policy Rate and the sight deposit rate held at -0.75%. In an accompanying statement, the SNB said "the coronavirus pandemic is continuing to have a strong adverse effect on the economy. Against this difficult backdrop, the SNB is maintaining its expansionary monetary policy with a view to stabilising economic activity and price developments."

The decision was in line with expectation, as laid out in MNI's preview published Dec 15.
