MNI BRIEF: Tariffs To Quickly Hit Eurozone Growth -Rehn

MNI (LONDON) - The effect of U.S. trade tariffs on the eurozone would be “fairly immediate” due to pervasive uncertainty and will weigh on growth this year and into next year before the economy is able to adjust, Bank of Finland Governor Olli Rehn told on an MNI Webcast on Tuesday. 

“The impact on growth will be negative and will also, to some extent, dampen inflation, as the impact on inflation cannot be ex ante”, he said, adding that the effect of additional EU defence spending will be felt “rather over the medium term”, with a “not huge” upward effectt on inflation.
