MNI DATA BRIEF: U.S. Jobless Claims Fall to 400,000

(MNI) WASHINGTON

U.S. claims for first-time jobless benefits fell in the latest week by 24,000 to 400,000, the Bureau of Labour Statistics said Thursday, a sign that the labor market recovery remains on track despite renewed concerns about the Delta Covid variant.

The Federal Reserve said Wednesday it has made progress toward its full employment and price stability goals, adding the central bank will "continue to assess progress in coming meetings" as it decides when to throttle back its USD120 billion monthly QE program. A NY Fed adviser recently told MNI a taper could be delayed if improvement in the labor market stalls.
