MNI BRIEF: U.S. Treasury Again Seeks Dealer Input On Buybacks

The U.S. Treasury asked primary dealers Friday again whether it should make debt repurchases to support liquidity and for maturity management, also seeking input about future Treasury bill sales to restore the cash balance after the debt limit issue is resolved in Congress.

The Treasury Department has asked for dealer views about buybacks at the August, November and February quarterly refundings. At the Fed's last meeting in March, open market desk manager, Roberto Perli, said Treasury market liquidity was poor, according to minutes released this week.
