MNI BRIEF: UK Nov Monthly GDP 8.5% Below Feb Level

LONDON (MNI)

UK monthly GDP in November was 8.5% below the level seen in February 2020, having fallen by 2.6% in the month compared with October, the Office for National Statistics said Friday. The outcome beat expectations of a decline in the region of 4.0%.

Unsurprisingly, the three largest falls in monthly GDP, since records began in January 1997, have all occurred in 2020, the ONS noted: 18.8% in April, 7.3% in March and 2.6% in November..

During November, business activity was restricted to varying degrees across each of the four nations to slow the spread of COVID-19 infections, the ONS said, with the 'Lockdown 2.0' being lifted in England on Dec 4.
