MNI (London)
TOKYO (MNI) - Japan's retail sales growth picked up from January's
eight-month-low, preliminary data released Friday by the Ministry of Economy,
Trade and Industry (METI) showed.
The key points from the latest retail sales data:
--Retail sales rose to 0.4% on year in February, picking up from January's
0.6% drop but lower than an MNI forecast projected for 1.2% y/y.
--Fuel sales contracted by 1.2% y/y in February, decelerating at a slower
rate than January's 2.0% drop.
--Sales for food and beverages dip further by 0.8% y/y from January's 0.4%
y/y decline.
--METI maintained its view on retail sales, which says the pickup will
