UK DATA: MNI: European Commission Survey Data Points to UK GfK Moderation

A weak showing in the European Commission's October UK Consumer Confidence
Indicator suggests the more closely watched GfK measure, published Wednesday
0001 GMT, could fail to register an immediate improvement after declining two
points to -9 in September. The E.C. UK Confidence Indicator rose slightly in
October, up 0.6pp to -5.2, but failed to recoup much of the 2.2-point loss in
September. The E.C index remains below its 12-month average of -4.8. Data
published by the Bank of England Monday highlighted subdued demand for unsecured
credit, albeit mostly attributed to weaker car registrations, but this combined
with higher personal loan repayments and higher elevated savings intentions
suggests consumers remain fairly risk averse on the eve of the festive season
and as we enter the final stage of Brexit negotiations.
