MNI POLICY: EC Sees 2 States Submitting Debt Plans By Sept 20
MNI (BRUSSELS) - Only Malta and Denmark will submit fiscal-structural plans by the Sept 20 deadline under the EU's new fiscal rules, though 16 more countries should have sent plans as well as Draft Budget Plans for 2025 by Oct 15, MNI understands.
The latter group consists of Czechia, Germany Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia and Finland, MNI understands. France and Belgium are likely to submit plans later. (See MNI: Most EU States To Miss Debt Plan Deadline - Sources)
The Commission has encouraged states to submit new medium-term fiscal-structural plans ahead of or at the same time as their 2025 DBPs, the deadline for which is Oct 15, so as to better align the procedure under new rules.
While Italy is expected to submit a plan by Sept 23, MNI understands that the Commision does not regard this as a formal submission but rather as a publication which is required for domestic consumption. (See MNI: Italy To Hand In Debt Plan On Time, May Adjust-Sources )
