Monday 31 July:

  • Spain: Acting PM Pedro Sanchez’s centre-left Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) to make an appeal to the national election board to review over 30,000 votes from the general election in the Madrid region that were declared void. The declaration saw the PSOE lose a seat, making the path to a successful investiture vote in parliament for Sanchez a much more difficult prospect. Sanchez would now require at least on deputy from the pro-independence Together for Catalonia party to vote in favour of his re-election rather than abstaining to gain a simple majority in an investiture vote.
