Monday 23 November:

  • EU-UK: Negotiations between EU and UK negotiating teams to resume via videoconference after one of the EU team tested positive for COVID-19 at the end of last week. The FTA talks are entering their finals stages in the coming days as time runs out for any potential deal to be translated and ratified by year-end to avoid the UK and EU trading on WTO terms from 1 January.
  • United States: Deadline for counties in Pennsylvania to submit their vote totals for the presidential election. Also, a 20-day window opens for officials in Michigan to certify their state's ballots. There is the potential for the Board of State Canvassers to be deadlocked over the sign-off. President Trump is claiming electoral fraud in both states.
  • European Union: Plenary session of the European Parliament gets underway, running through to Thursday 26 November. Due to take place virtually due to COVID-19 lockdown in Belgium.
  • Europe:German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas hosts his French and UK counterparts in Berlin. The meeting seems to have come at short notice, and is being billed as a sign of the continued close diplomatic relations between the three European powerhouses.
  • United Kingdom:Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey and Chief Economist Andy Haldane to appear before the Commons Treasury select committee at 1530GMT (1030ET, 1630CET) to answer questions on the BoE's latest monetary policy report. Likely to act as a scene-setter for Chancellor Rishi Sunak's spending review statement on Wednesday. At the same time, PM Boris Johnson will deliver a statement to the Commons on the next stage of COVID-19 restrictions in England.
  • United States:President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-Elect Kamala Harris to meet virtually with the US Conference of Mayors from Biden's home in Wilmington, DE.
  • Argentina, Japan: Public holidays for National Sovereignty Day, Labor Thanksgiving Day respectively.
