- US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Egypt today for another bout of shuttle diplomacy designed to prod Israel and Hamas towards accepting a US-brokered ceasefire proposal. The United Nations is expected to vote today on a US-backed resolution calling on Hamas to agree to the proposal.
- The Biden administration is reportedly “close to finalizing,” a major defence agreement with Saudi Arabia which the White House hopes will encourage ties between Riyadh and Israel.
- Congress will return from a short recess tomorrow to continue work on Fiscal Year 2025 spending bills and the annual National Defense Authorisation Act.
- President Biden will head back to Europe on Wednesday to attend the G7 Leaders Summit in Puglia, Italy, where he will press counterparts on finalising details of a plan to use immobilised Russian sovereign assets to fund Ukraine.
- President Biden is dispatching cabinet secretaries to tout his major legislative achievements and fundraise in swing states. The tour comes as a fundraising blitz by Trump’s campaign appears to have closed the campaign financing gap to President Biden.
- Former President Donald Trump made a pitch for low-wage swing-state voters, pledging to scrap taxes on tipped earning at a campaign event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
- Poll of the Day: Trump’s Manhattan guilty verdict has moved the dial slightly towards Biden, but is secondary to issues like the economy, inflation, and immigration.
