Former Slovene central bank governor Bostjan Jazbec is set to be nominated to fill the position on the European Central Bank's Executive Board that becomes vacant at the the end of the year, MNI has learned.

Jazbec, currently a director at the Single Resolution Board, will join Frank Eldersen of the Netherlands as an official candidate for the position. The Eurogroup of finance ministers will discuss making their recommendation next month.

Whoever wins the race will take over from Yves Mersch, who steps down from the Executive Board on Dec. 31
