MNI: UK PM May Sees UK/EU Terror Co-operation Post Brexit

MNI (London)
LONDON (MNI) - UK Prime Minister Theresa May said Thursday that following
Brexit, the UK would continue to cooperate with the European Union, particularly
on matters of defence and counter-terrorism.
Speaking ahead of the European Council gathering of leaders in Brussels,
May said: "This Council is about taking stock. It's also about looking ahead to
how we can tackle the challenges that we all share across Europe; that means, of
course, continued co-operation."
"We'll also be looking at the concrete progress that's been made in our
exit negotiations, and looking at setting out ambitious plans for the weeks
ahead. I particularly, for example, want to see an urgency in reaching an
agreement on citizens' rights," she said.
"This Council isn't just about our exit negotiations, it's also about
various other really important issues - defence, security, counter-terrorism,
migration - and I'm going to be showing how the UK will continue to play a full
role," the PM added.
But you are here primarily with the hope of progressing Brexit talks. On
the EU side, they say Britain has to compromise to be able to move on - are you
willing to budge?
May also noted that the UK looked forward to progressing Brexit
negotiations in the weeks ahead.
"That speech in Florence set out that ambitious vision, and I look forward
to us being able to progress that in the weeks ahead," she said.
"We will be talking about a variety of issues today. I've set out the UK's
vision in that Florence speech, and I look forward to discussing that," she
added.
