Morawiecki Concludes U.S. Visit, Parliament Debates Foreign Policy

  • Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki wraps up his visit to the U.S. today and will speak at an Atlantic Council meeting. The Premier reiterated his call for greater military assistance for Ukraine and said that the U.S. should try and convince South Korea to greenlight the sales of artillery ammunition to Kyiv. Meanwhile, Morawiecki confirmed that Poland will receive 14 Abrams battle tanks by June.
  • The bulk of today's sitting of the lower house of parliament will be devoted to foreign affairs, as Poland's chief diplomat delivers his annual "expose," a broad outline of the government's foreign policy agenda for the coming year. The debate is expected to wind up in the evening, with the Sejm scheduled to vote on a motion of no confidence in the Education Minister later tonight.
  • Business Insider reported that Poland's financial watchdog KNF is struggling to rally enough political support behind its proposed legislation to mitigate the systemic risks posed by the toxic CHF mortgage loans. The KNF is unable to table legislation in parliament on its own and would need a political sponsor who would formally propose the bill.
