ECB
ECB: More from the Schnabel interview:
- Q: What would be the impact if the Bundesbank is ordered to stop buying bonds?
- A: I don't think it will come to that situation. We are in a monetary union,
and Germany and the Bundesbank are an important part of that. We have to avoid a
situation in which one national central bank cannot participate in our asset
purchase programmes.
- Q: What would be the impact on Germany bond yield if the Bundesbank did stop
buying Bunds?
- A: As I said, that is not going to happen.
- Q: Okay, so how are you going to stop it happening?
- A: The Bundesbank is more directly affected by the ruling. But it is also an
independent institution. I'm sure there is going to be communication between the
Bundesbank and the German parliament and the German government, and one will
have to find a solution. If the ECB can be constructive in supporting that
process, we will of course do so.
