BOE: MPC Haskel - Backs Rate Cut, Sees Downside Risks To UK
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
MPC's Jonathan Haskel, who voted in the minority for a 25bps cut at the Dec
meeting, set out his views on the UK economic outlook, highlighting the downside
risks, in a speech Friday. Haskel's arguments for easing, including taking out
insurance by stimulating the economy now to try and avoid getting stuck at the
effective lower bound, and his concerns over the lingering downside risks,
including Brexit uncertainty, strongly suggest he will continue to favour easing
near term.
