North Korean state media carried reports overnight about Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un's visit to the Nuclear Weapons Institute, during which he called for an increase in the number of centrifuges used to enrich uranium to weapons-grade levels. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) did not disclose the location of the facility but it was the first time Pyongyang showed any details of the facility.
- Separately, Yonhap News Agency reported that next week North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui might make a trip to Russia, where she could "make a courtesy call on Russian President Vladimir Putin." Tightening cooperation between the two countries has raised concerns about the possible Russian aid for North Korea's nuclear programme.
