US heating demand for the week ending Nov. 23 is forecast to be 39 heating degree days (HDD) below the long-term normal, according to Bloomberg, citing the NOAA.

  • The regions with the largest deviation from the normal are the, E N Central 65 HDD below average, W S Central, 46 HDD below average, and E S Central 45 HDD below average.
  • In terms of states with the greatest deviations, Nebraska is forecast to be 80 HDD below average, Wisconsin also at 80 HDD below normal, and Iowa at 77 HDD below average.
  • This week’s total forecast for HDD is 96, compared to a normal of 135 and down from the actual figure of 103 from last week.
  • During the week to Nov. 19, the US was 17 HDD below normal.
  • Heating degree days measure energy demand to heat buildings. It is the number of degrees that the mean daily temperature is below a 65-degree Fahrenheit base. Greater numbers mean colder temperatures.
