NBH To Name Eva Buza and Zoltan Kovacs as Two New Rate-Setting Members

HUNGARY

From Bloomberg:

  • Eva Buza and Zoltan Kovacs will replace a pair of non-executive members of the Monetary Council whose six-year mandates expire in the next three weeks, according to a person familiar with the decision. Buza heads a state credit insurer while Kovacs is a former Hungarian Post Office executive.
  • Buza and Kovacs are joining a Monetary Council that has not witnessed a dissenting vote in interest-rate decisions in almost seven years. By law, the non-executive members of the rate body are nominated by parliament’s Economy Committee and are then confirmed by the full legislature. Both are dominated by Orban’s Fidesz party.
