POLAND: NBP Expected To Stand Pat On Rates This Week
POLAND
- The National Bank of Poland (NBP) is expected to leave monetary policy parameters unchanged on Wednesday. The decision will be informed by a new inflation projection prepared by the central bank's staff, with the forecast horizon extended through end-2027. Governor Adam Glapinski's press conference on Thursday may shed more light on the outlook.
- Deputy Finance Minister Hanna Majszczyk told PAP newswire that the ministry has cut its 2025 CPI outlook to +4.5% Y/Y from +5.0%. Statistics Poland will report inflation data for February, alongside the details of the annual revamp and re-weighting of the CPI basket, this Friday.
- Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski clashed with Elon Musk and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an exchange of posts on X over Ukraine's access to Starlink services. Rubio told Sikorski to "say thank you" as "without Starlink Ukraine would have lost this war long ago and Russians would be on the border with Poland right now."
- Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk clarified that the government is planning to introduce a nationwide military training programme, offering people various benefits to incentivise them to sign up and form "an army of reservists." The training will be "voluntary but universal."
