NBP Week Gets Underway, Morawiecki To Discuss Budget Matters

POLAND
  • The NBP will announce its monetary policy decision on Wednesday, while Governor Adam Glapinski traditionally holds his press conference the day after. While the central bank is expected to keep interest rates unchanged, it will also unveil updated economic forecast, which will draw interest to this week's meeting after a streak of in-line stand-pat decisions. The NBP-centred week will conclude with the publication of the minutes of the central bank's previous meeting on Friday.
  • Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will use his keynote speech at the "Stable Public Finances in Unstable Times" conference to attack the main opposition party, his aide told 300polityka. The Premier will argue that Poland's spending on welfare programmes, development and unprecedented modernisation of the army would not be possible without the successes of his administration in tackling tax evasion.
  • The lower house this week will debate two contentious bills sponsored by the citizens, one tightening the abortion law and one liquidating state-owned news channel TVP Info. None of them is expected to pass, but they may further increase the temperature of the public debate as main political parties prepare for this year's election.
