NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has announced in a video message on X that he's "ripped up" the supply-and-confidence agreement with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal government, which was scheduled to run until June 2025.
- Reuters reports that Singh, "is tearing up deal that is helping keep PM Trudeau's Liberal government in power," according to a Trudeau aide.
- Reuters notes the announcement, "means that if Trudeau is to continue governing, he will need to find support from other opposition legislators."
- According to a memo shared on X by Brian Lilley at the Toronto Sun, Singh told the NDP caucus earlier today: "...like so many Canadians, we have been left frustrated and disappointed by Justin Trudeau's broken promises.
- "Our country is at a crossroads. The Liberals are too weak, selfish, and too beholden to corporate interests to fight Pierre Poilievre's agenda. The next election will give Canadians a choice - they will choose between [Poilievre's] callous cuts, and a hopeful New Democratic vision..."
- The memo says that the NDP will withdraw from the supply-and-confidence agreement, "when Parliament resumes in the Fall."
