Netanyahu: We Are At A Dangerous Crossroads

ISRAEL

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned, in an address to the nation, that Israel is at a "dangerous crossroads" but has refused to abandon his judicial reform plan which has sparked widespread protests and a general strike claiming that a delay to parliamentary action has been called to reach a coalition-opposition agreement in the coming months.

  • Netanyahu said, via Reuters: "There is an extremist minority ready to divide our nation... I am not ready to divide the nation in pieces."
  • "I will turn over every stone to find a solution... I am taking time for dialogue [and] will delay second and third readings of justice bill to following parliamentary session."
  • Netanyahu said the delay to consideration "comes from a will to reach broad consensus."
  • Amichai Stein at Kann reports that Netanyahu also called on the "heads of the security establishment to stop the refusals to serve due to the judicial plan."
