Nikkei: EU Seeks Extra LNG From Japan To Hedge Against Russian Cutoff

Japan's Nikkei reportingthat the EU is to seek extra supplies of LNG from Japan in a hedge against being cut off from supplies of Russian natural gas.

  • Citing an unnamed source, Nikkei reports that the EU and Japan will soon discuss LNG supplies to be delivered after March.
  • Japan is the world's largest importer of LNG, taking in 102 billion cubic metres in 2020 ahead of China in second on 94bcm and South Korea third on 55bcm.
