No Change In Latest Ifop Polling, Macron: 52.5%, Le Pen: 47.5%

FRANCE

Latest polling from Ifop-Fiducial shows no change from yesterday's numbers, with President Emmanuel Macron with 52.5% support to right-wing Rassemblement National leader Marine Le Pen's 47.5%.

  • The polling also shows Macron with more 'positive' voters in his camp, i.e. those voting for him because they want him to serve as president, rather than because they do not want to see Le Pen become president.
  • % of Macron voters supporting him because they want him to remain president: 57%, % supporting him to stop Le Pen becoming president: 43%
  • % of Le Pen voters supporting her because they want her to become president: 54%, % supporting her because they want to see Macron ousted: 46%. Source: Ifop-Fiducial, Fieldwork 10-12 April, 2,004 respondents
  • These numbers could prove important come the second round on 24 April. Campaigns with more 'positive voters' tend to fare better in getting their voters to turn out as opposed to those relying more on 'negative voters' who are simply seeking to oust an incumbent rather than supporting the candidate they are voting for.
