North African LNG Exports Dip in January

LNG

North African LNG exports – from Algeria and Egypt – stood at 1.18mn tons on 1-30 January, down from 1.34mn tons in December, S&P Commodity Insights data showed, suggesting Red Sea shipping disruptions are hindering exports out of the region.

  • Algeria exported 980,000 tons so far in January, 120,000 tons lower on the month.
  • Egyptian LNG exports stood at 200,000 tons so far this month, down by 40,000 tons from December.
  • 92% of these volumes are headed for Europe, with 550,000 tons headed for Turkey, 260,000 tons headed for France and 160,000 tons headed for Italy.
  • Sources suggest exports out of Egypt and Algeria should climb in January to reach levels surpassing December. Market intelligence also pointed to signs of strong exports in February already emerging, with even some selling interest to the West and East Med popping up in March.
